2 Day Training at Kirkovo: The correct techniques for processing the local varieties of grapes

On April 4th and 5th (Thursday and Friday) 2019 at 09:00 in the conference hall of the family hotel “Enchevi”, Kirkovo Municipality, a two-day training aimed at improved quality of the wine on theme “The correct techniques for processing the local varieties of grapes, D3.7.4, was be held.

The event was implemented within the framework of  project “Developing Identity ON Yield, SOil and Site”, with acronym: DIONYSOS, Grant Contract В2.6с.04/01.11.2017, Cooperation Program INTERREG V-A Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020.

The training was opened by Mrs. Pavlina Milenova, DIONYSOS project manager on behalf of Municipality of Kirkovo. Assoc. Prof. Iliyan Simeonov, PhD, Institute of Viticulture and Enology, Pleven, presented the soil-climatic characteristics and variety potential in the districts of Haskovo and Kardzhali. The lector also presented the stages, rules and guidelines in terms of creation of new vineyards.

Assoc. Prof. Nikolay Genov, PhD, Institute of Viticulture and Enology, Pleven, introduced the participants of the training with the specifics of vine seedlings and provided practical advices and guidelines on protection of vineyards of economically important diseases and pests in the districts of Haskovo and Kardzhali.

During the training event the participants and lectors discussed the results of DNA analyses of local varieties of vines under project DIONYSOS. Other themes that were presented in detail were the current state and future trends in wine production as well as National programmes providing support for wine sector.

The project is implemented by 8 beneficiaries from Greece and Bulgaria, one of which is Municipality of Kirkovo.

The aim of the project is to build an identity of the cross-border region in the local agricultural sector in order to increase the tourist flow and ensure sustainable development and biodiversity.
